About the Event
Join creator, teacher, and performer Kiddo Sun from China on the last stop of his 2024 Midwestern tour! At Sacred Shimmy Studio, Kiddo will present two workshops for advanced dancers on Tribal Witch Sword Vocabulary, featuring completely cueable concepts that can be plugged in to any group improvisational format.
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Yang Sword - Sword Display with Power
Learn to exhibit your sword in a way that demonstrates immense power! In this workshop on fast movements, you will infuse your sword work with strength and stretch your energy to the farthest reach of your sword.
12:00 - 1:30 PM - Lunch (on your own)
1:30 - 3:30 PM: Yin Sword - Soft and Agile
Moves like the Layback and the Zipper aren't the only way to demonstrate your advanced skills and understanding of music. In this workshop on slow movements, you will practice graceful and elegant vocabulary that reveal the softness and agility of sword dancing. We'll analyze the connection between performer and audience from the perspective of the camera to create truly beautiful visual displays.
Please note: these are advanced workshops not recommended for beginner dancers. To attend, you should already be comfortable dancing with a sword both alone and in groups. To build skills before the workshop, check out Angie Never's weekly sword class Hips Lips Swords Power.
