Plug Into Practice with Colette Todorov

Practice is an aspect of artistic life that we get fired up about at Sacred Shimmy Studio! We're passionate about what practice can do for you, as an artist and a person, to build your relationship with your craft and help you fully express yourself. To keep you inspired, we're offering a window into the practice lives of some of our favorite dancers and musicians - each teacher will walk you through a sample practice session in a way you can experience and grab ideas from.

Special guest instructor Colette Todorov is has been belly dancing for 20 years, starting with her first class with Carolena Nericcio of FCBD® in San Francisco in 1997.  She was immediately intrigued by the group improvisational aspect of the dance and was invited to join the professional troupe at the start of 2001.  In 2008, Colette established Scarlet Thistle Studio in Hood River, OR as her home base for teaching.  The following year she founded Scarlet Thistle Belly Dance, a performance troupe that performs at festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest.  In 2011, Colette became the resident FCBD Style® instructor at Datura, Rachel Brice’s studio in Portland, bringing over 15 years of belly dance teaching experience to studios and workshops throughout the area.  

In this workshop, "Scarlet Universe," Colette will share Scarlet Thistle dialect that clearly represents their FCBD Style foundation, while reflecting the style and personality of the troupe. Dedicated to group improvisation, Scarlet Thistle movements manipulate shapes and tempo, lend themselves to various formations, and reinterpret classic movement vocabulary in exciting ways.  This class begins with an active warm up, offering accessible variations, and concludes with a final cool down.

This class will be held via Zoom meeting. Participants will receive a link to the class about an hour before start time. You will also receive a link to a recording of the class that you can download to use at another time. The workshop cost is $25.
