About the Event
Let's spend January learning about folkloric dance! The Focus on Folklore series will offer a return to the roots of bellydance, investigating traditional dances from Persia, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, and the Maghreb. Join us to connect modern practices to a rich history.
Spend two hours with Athena Najat learning how to feel natural in nine! This workshop will offer the opportunity to improvise Roman Havasi dance, explore Turkish Roman dance, and investigate the 9/8 rhythm at its core. This dance is earthy, powerful and a lot of fun to learn! In this workshop we will build our dance vocabulary with steps, movements, gestures and feeling, letting each dancer's personality shine through with a natural expression. We will practice a variety of tempos and styles to get a feel of the dance as it exists in a social setting...evolving with creativity and experimentation.
This class will be held via Zoom meeting. Participants will receive a link to the class in an email confirming registration. You will also receive a link to a recording of the class that you can download to use at another time. The workshop cost is $30.
Keep your eyes open for workshop announcements for other teachers in the Focus on Folklore January workshop series!
