Angie Never is the director of Sacred Shimmy. She fell in love with bellydance as a student in 1997 and it has become a larger part of her life every year since. You can find her professional bio here.
Zach Beery started playing piano as child with his grandmother and has focused on his main instrument the darbuka since 2004. He has studied with masters here in the U.S. and abroad in Morocco and Turkey. Private lessons with Mark Bell, Issam Houshan, and Bunyamin Olguncan have been a highlight of learning this challenging instrument. He is knowledgeable in playing for dancers in Cabaret Soloist and American Tribal Style® with over a decade of live performance. Check out classes now being offered here in Columbus, Ohio to learn the drum for bellydance.
Eva Bevins has studied ATS® bellydance with Angie Never since 2005, and has been a student of hand drumming with Zach Beery since 2007. Eva loves ATS® because of the way it serves as a common language so that dancers and drummers who have never met before can come together and can strike up a conversation immediately.
Eva earned her ATS® General Skills certification in 2015. In addition to teaching some Level 1 and Level 2 classes, Eva has had the opportunity to teach ATS® vocabulary using baskets, sharing Dayanisma’s lovely dialect with Columbus ATS® dancers.
When not performing with Sacred Shimmy, Eva can sometimes be seen singing and playing bass, banjolele or mandolin in the band (((reverbalines))).
Jenny Maro had been fascinated by belly dance since her youth but never found a class or a teacher until 2005 when she started taking belly dance lessons from Angie Never and never stopped. She originally learned Gypsy Caravan ITS mixed with Fat Chance Belly Dance® ATS® and joined Sacred Shimmy as a member of the performance troupe in 2006. She loves the community and unity ATS® offers. Jenny is endeavoring to develop teaching skills under the patient tutelage of Angie Never and occasionally offers classes on dancing ATS® using a sword as a prop.
Candace Coogan has been a member of Sacred Shimmy since 2008.
Erica Powell has been a member of Sacred Shimmy since 2014.
